Consider Meal Prepping
Working 5-6 days per week at a rate of 8-10 hours per day can be taxing, there’s no doubt about it. Moreover, while working from home certainly has its advantages, it can also have an impact on your overall motivation or lack thereof.
At the end of a long work day, it can be difficult to have the energy or desire to cook, let alone cook something healthy. The likely result? Opting for the convenient, unhealthy option instead…
The solution? Meal preparation!
While meal prep takes some experience, once you’ve found a rhythm, it can be quite beneficial and convenient in the long run. Simply choose one or two days per week to cook a week’s worth of meals and store it in the fridge or freezer.
Having all of your meals cooked and ready to go at your convenience is the best way to safe time and energy, and avoid the ever-so-common trap of letting laziness get the best of your food choices.
Drink Your Water!
This one is fairly common sense, however, you’d be shocked at how many people are “deficient”, for the lack of a better term, in water. Not only is water what keeps us alive, but it’s what allows us to thrive, to have energy, and to cleanse our bodies, among other benefits.
By drinking a sufficient amount of water daily, you prime your body to fight off and flush out toxins, while keeping you hydrated and nourished.
Tip: Working from home can consist of a lot of sitting down, whether in your office chair or on the couch. Consider using a small glass to fill with water. This way, you have an excuse to get up, get some steps in, and burn some extra calories.
It may seem minor, however, compounded over time, water intake and extra steps can result in noticeable progress, not only to your physical fitness but to your overall health and well-being.
Implement Non-Negotiable Breaks
We all have obligations and it’s easy to get caught up in the day-to-day grind of work, especially when working from home. Whether you’re engrossed in work-related project or task, or you’re scheduling your week ahead with meetings and other time-sensitive obligations, it can be difficult to walk away from your desk.
With that said, it doesn’t have to be. By implementing habits into your daily workday, you can begin to experience relief, without it being detrimental to your work productivity.
After all, We all understand the consequences of starring at a computer screen all day. It’s poor for our overall health, destroys our posture, and can even be detrimental to our vision, brain function, and mental health.
The solution? Non-negotiable breaks.
Whether it’s a quick 5-minute break every half-hour, or a regimented 30 minute break 2-3 times per day, a quick and simple breather can pay dividends to your health and mental well-being.
Move, Move, Move!
As mentioned earlier, working from home has its advantages. However, like all things, it doesn’t come without its disadvantages…
It’s widely been shown that those that work from home tend to spend more hours working than those that work corporately in an office. This can be attributed to a sense of guilt or a sense of obligation. Nonetheless, it’s often true.
If you are a remote worker that is guilty of this, it’s important to realize that taking care of your mind and body will carry over to the quality of work that you do. Clocking more hours won’t necessarily do the same.
Instead, move! Whether it’s a stretching protocol during your break, a short walk outside, or a non-negotiable visit to the gym at 5pm, moving your body, getting physical, and getting the blood flowing is crucial to remaining physically sharp!
Another fun implement is what’s unofficially known as “desk-ercising”. Yep, you read that right! As you can probably guess, these are quick and easy exercises and stretches that one can do at their desk, in their desk chair, or near their desk during a quick stand-up break.
However you choose to move, the important thing is that you move!
